What is sensitive skin?

Skin can be sensitive in varying degrees. To some, the sensitivity can be a more or less permanent condition, where the skin is constantly itchy and inflamed, while some only experience occasional flare ups and others aren’t even aware they have sensitive skin until their skin reacts to a certain product. Usually, sensitive skin is a symptom of another condition such as allergy, rosacea, or eczema, and your skin can react in different ways depending on what condition it’s reflecting. The most common symptoms of sensitive skin are inflammations, rashes, and flaky skin that feels itchy or stings. Put shortly, it’s not a comfortable condition to be dealing with, which is why it’s essential you treat your skin with the right products to keep it calm and soothed.

How do I treat sensitive skin?

To combat burning sensations, red flushes, and seemingly ever-lasting irritations, you need to take your skincare as well as non-skincare routines into account. Habits of long, overly hot showers and fragrant detergents might sound nice, but these are two non-skincare factors that can trigger a reaction in sensitive skin, possibly worsening its condition. When it comes to your skincare regime, we’d advise you to opt for natural ingredients and mild formulations. Synthetic fragrances, alcohol, and physical exfoliants can especially be tough on sensitive skin, so make sure you keep your routine gentle and nourishing. Choose a facial wash with natural cleansing actives, a strengthening serum, and a calming moisturizer to keep your skin cooled and replenished.

Go-to ingredients for sensitive skin

There exists numerous effectively calming ingredients out there – we’ve chosen four, we adore a little extra, namely: Aloe vera, vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide. Aloe vera is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-irritating properties that are especially effective for helping to soothe skin in reaction. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that’s acknowledged for its ability to repair skin and minimize redness to leave an even complexion, while hyaluronic acid is a famous moisture-binding ingredient, mostly loved for its soothing and hydrating benefits. Lastly, we have niacinamide. A lot can be said about this wonderworker, but with its strengthening and calming powers, it’s especially enriching for inflamed and flushed skin.
