There's something about the last quiet minutes of the day. Skin is clean, the lights are low, and for once there's nothing left to rush through.
We're often asked how to actually use the Sculpting Face Gua Sha correctly. So here's the full guide, in one place — along with a few thoughts on why the stone and the oil belong together.
What is a Gua Sha?
Gua sha is a massage technique rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, where a smooth stone is worked gently across the skin to ease tension and support circulation. Our Sculpting Face Gua Sha is shaped from natural citrine — a stone known for its cooling, calming qualities, traditionally associated with joy and positive energy. No two stones are alike; colour and texture vary naturally from piece to piece.
What a good Gua Sha routine can do for the skin
Used regularly, Gua Sha massage can:
— support blood circulation, for a fresher-looking complexion
— stimulate lymphatic drainage and ease the feeling of puffiness
— release tension in the jaw and facial muscles — many people hold stress here without noticing
— support the skin's own collagen and elastin over time, so fine lines appear softer

How to use it — step by step
- Prepare the skin. Cleanse your face, neck and décolleté so the skin is clean.
2. Apply oil. Warm 2–3 pumps of Vitamin Face Oil between your hands and apply to the face, neck and décolleté. The oil is what lets the stone glide without pulling on the skin — don't skip it.
3. Find your pressure. Light to medium pressure, each motion repeated three times. Never press hard — Gua Sha is a gentle technique, not a deep massage.
4. Follow the sequence:
— Start at the chest with stroking motions to open up the lymphatics
— Pulse with three fingers down the neck
— Pulse at the jawline joints and in front of the ears
— Stroke upward along the neck muscles
— One-way motion along the jawline
— Up-and-down motion along the jaw muscle
— One-way motion along the cheekbones and under the eyes
— One-way motion under and over the brow
— Finish with one motion across the forehead

Use the rounded corner for the cheekbones and jawline, the smooth edge for the forehead, and the comb-shaped side for a little extra stimulation. Five to ten minutes is enough — this is a ritual, not a task.
A small tip: keep your Gua Sha in the fridge. The extra coolness feels especially good in the evening, when the skin feels warm or tense after a long day.

The two halves of the ritual: Gua Sha and Vitamin Face Oil
A Gua Sha without oil doesn't quite work — the stone needs to glide freely, or it pulls at the skin instead of working with it. That's why we recommend using them together: Vitamin Face Oil gives the ritual the glide it needs, while nourishing the skin as you go.
What some of our customers say
“I bought the Vitamin Face Oil and the Gua Sha and use it as a time to connect and check in with myself at the end of the day. It's relaxing and I've noticed an improvement with how I hold stress in my face and jaw.”

“Really really good and beautiful Gua Sha!”

“An extra plus is that the oil is beyond perfect for face massage.”
— Jette, on Vitamin Face Oil
Making it a habit
It doesn't need to be every night. Aim for two to three times a week, ideally as the last thing you do before bed — skin is clean, the oil can work overnight, and those few minutes become part of the evening's calm, rather than another thing on a list.
