How makeup affects your skin

Whether you lean towards the natural or more artistic side of the makeup spectrum, it's worth understanding how these beauty products actually affect your skin. Our goal is not to deter you from reaching for your favorite products — on the contrary, we provide advice on how to maintain your daily routines while taking the best possible care of your skin.

Is makeup harmful to the skin?

20,000. That's how many pores the average adult has on their face. It's therefore not difficult to understand why anything touching your face can influence your skin's balance. Makeup can both be drying and clog the skin's pores. Whether makeup is harmful to the skin is not a yes/no question — it depends on individual skin and the product. However, there are some essential steps that can always help.

Bacteria-infested brushes are a no-go

Even when not in use, our makeup brushes collect dust, dirt, and bacteria. When these come into contact with the skin, they can lead to irritation, clogged pores, and subsequent blemishes. Always add washing your makeup brushes to your weekly tasks — simply massage a few drops of our Daily Foaming Cleanser into the bristles, rinse with lukewarm water, and let them air-dry. Takes a few minutes but makes a big difference.

Your makeup also expires

Expired products can accumulate bacteria over time, possibly leading to impurities, bumps, infection, or rashes. On your makeup's packaging, you can find a symbol indicating how many months the product is durable. Unfortunately, it's often shorter than we expect.

Our guide to a dewy, glowy base

Moisturize, moisturize, and then moisturize again. Apply your favorite moisturizer and let it penetrate the skin for a few minutes before applying your makeup.

For those who love makeup, always remember to cleanse your skin after a long day: Use our Daily Foaming Cleanser to remove makeup, sunscreen, and dirt. Remember to moisturize afterward.
